As an all-inclusive, all food, drinks and snacks are included in the room rate, making this a good value option for a family.
However, if you want to try your luck at the casino, indulge at the spa or explore the island with a tour guide, you will need to budget for these extras.
Special offers for early bird or last-minute bookings are available at the Royalton Bavaro all inclusive resort and spa. The hotel also offers special packages for weddings, honeymoons and anniversaries.
Punta Cana is famous for its beaches and natural attractions. The area surrounding Royalton Bavaro is full of resorts, so there are no local restaurants or bars to walk to.
The closest airport is Punta Cana (PUJ), a 25 minute drive away.
However, the front desk will help you book an excursion if you want to explore outside the resort. Nearby places of interest include Hoya Azul, a beautiful cenote around 40 minutes drive away and Isla Saona, a tropical island famed for its beaches.
Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out is at 12 p.m.
Fitness room
Fitness programs and classes in cardio, weight lifting, Zumba and more are included in the room rate.
Spa
The Royal Spa has a hydrotherapy circuit and a menu of massage, body and facial treatments, for an extra charge.
Non-motorized water sports
Borrow a kayak, paddle board, boogie board or snorkeling set for fun in the water. Motorized water sports are also available for an extra fee.
Casino
After 7 p.m., head to the casino to try your luck on the slot machines or table games.
Flowrider surf simulator
The Flowrider is a fun, safe way to try boogie boarding or stand-up surfing, without going in the ocean.
Lazy river
The 1,200 foot lazy river is a fun tubing expereince that takes you around the hotel’s lush, landscaped grounds.
Two pools
The resort has a splash pad for kids and an oceanfront infinity pool, with shaded loungers around the edge.
Water park
The water park, located a five-minute drive away at Royalton Punta Cana, is available free to all guests. There are a variety of water slides, plus a wave pool and splash pad for smaller guests.
The water slides have minimum heights enforced, so younger children will not be able to ride the bigger tubes.
Teens Club
The Hangout Teens Club at Royalton is for 13-17-year-olds, with PlayStation lounges, billiards, ping pong tables and supervised outdoor fun.
Kids Club
Younger children aged four to 12 can go to the kid’s club, which has kids’ characters, cartoons, games and playgrounds.
Parents can drop the kids off at the club, then head to the spa in the day, or the sports bar if that’s more your thing. At night, head to the casino for gaming tables and slot machines.
There are six on-site restaurants plus a further three available to guests at Grand Memories Punta Cana, which is next door. There are plenty of bars, including a sports bar, where you can catch whatever game you’re missing at home.
If the kids are too tired to eat out, take advantage of the 24-hour room service. All the restaurants are walk-in: however, Diamond Club guests are allowed to make reservations if they prefer.
Gourmet Marché offers international cuisine and a special kids buffet area.
Jade, which serves Asian cuisine a la carte, is popular with guests. There is also a steakhouse, a Japanese restaurant, an Italian trattoria and a coffee shop.
Royalton Punta Cana has three room categories: resort, Diamond Club and Hideaway.
All rooms offer 24-hour concierge service and room service, free WiFi, rain showers, a minibar and a balcony or terrace. Views vary from ocean to uninspiring. An ocean view room will cost extra.
For an extra $60, you can use an online room selector to choose exactly where you want to stay, just like choosing your seat on the airplane.
Standard rooms are spacious and modern, with comfortable beds. Suites come with two queens or one king and can accommodate up to four people. Swim-up rooms are also available.
Is the diamond club worth it? The upgraded Diamond Club rooms come with extra perks such as butler service and the ability to make dinner reservations; an exclusive pool, restaurant and beach area; an hour of hydrotherapy every day; and a better room service menu.
These perks plus all-round better service makes the Diamond Club upgrade a good proposition, if it fits within your budget.
For a more luxurious experience, the Presidential 1 bedroom suite has double the living space of the family suites and a separate living area with a double sofa bed.
The Diamond Club Presidential two-bedroom suites can accommodate up to eight people and are another step-up in luxury, while the Chairman’s suite has a dining room, living room, hot tub and pool table.
Accessible rooms are available and there are ramps throughout the resort.
I searched the web and found some guest reviews, most of which were positive.
With both hotels on the same beach, you may be wondering, what’s the difference between Royalton Bavaro and Royalton Punta Cana? The main difference is the on-site water park, which is available to Bavaro guests, is located at the Punta Cana hotel.
If you think your kids will make good use of the waterslides, it might be better to stay at Royalton Punta Cana instead.
However, there are height restrictions so kids under six will not be able to ride many of the slides. In this case, stay at Bavaro, where they can enjoy the splash pad and lazy river instead.
The facilities at this resort, including the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course and the 45,000 square foot casino are some of the best in the Dominican Republic.
In addition to the great amenities, Hard Rock Punta Cana features plenty of fun rock memorabilia and music-themed activities for the family.
Grand Palladium is one of the more affordable mega-resorts in the area, set on a beautiful beach. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food is good and there is a casino on-site.
On the downside, it can get crowded at dinner and smoking is allowed outside.
Royalton Bavaro is a solid choice for families looking to stay at a luxury resort on Bavaro Beach. On the whole, the food quality is good for an all-inclusive and there is a good variety of dishes on offer.
Children are well-looked after with a kids’ buffet, lazy river and Flowrider. The kids club is also popular and the water park is a good day out.
Diamond Club guests are usually the happiest at the resort, as they have access to all the areas, including the coveted beach cabanas, a quieter pool and better service.
Standard rooms are still pretty nice, however. All the rooms are a good size and everyone gets a good bed and a rainfall shower, regardless of the color of your wristband.
